Builders Showcase Expo

   The Builders Showcase Expo will be feature San Antonio's Ultimate Home and Lifestyle Experience including "Extreme Dream Kitchens" and "Build San Antonio Green."
   The showcase expo will display kitchen designs by three of San Antonio’s premier builders: Double Diamond Custom Homes, Elegance In Design Custom Homes, L.P. and Mike Hollaway Custom Homes. Each kitchen will feature a different design and feel and all will incorporate green building elements.
   The expo will have an entire area devoted to eco-friendly building products and techniques, the Build San Antonio Green™ Feature will be an educational resource for San Antonio consumers interested in the green lifestyle.

Christopher's Guide to the Orchestra

   The San Antonio Symphony will open its 2008-09 season with Orli Shaham featured on the piano.
   The new season begins as conductor Christopher Seaman leads the San Antonio Symphony in program of timeless classics. Britten’s evocative The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra opens the program. Celebrated pianist Orli Shaham, praised by critics as a “technically flawless” performer who “transforms every phrase she touches into a finely sculpted work of art,” performs a dazzling Mozart piano concerto. Brahms’s magnificent Second Symphony ends the program with its irresistible Viennese grandeur.

Classical Fractions

   Classical Fractions: Opening the San Antonio Symphony's 2008-2009 Young People's Concert Series will be a performance that explores the many meters in music. Learn about the relationships between musical and mathematical fractions. We will hear pieces written in a variety of meters and invite you to count along with this mathematical program!

The Music of Pink Floyd

   From the creators of last season's near sell-out performance of The Music of Led Zeppelin, guest conductor Brent Havens and singer Randy Jackson will join the San Antonio Symphony for a special one-night-only performance at the Municipal Auditorium with The Music of Pink Floyd. Don't miss this exciting evening as Pink Floyd's sonic wizardry and legendary repertoire is brought to life, creating a unique musical experience for rock fans of all ages. The program will feature 17 Pink Floyd tunes, including Money, Dark Side of the Moon, Comfortably Numb and selections from The Wall.

Songs of Destiny

   Austrian conductor Christoph Campestrini leads the San Antonio Symphony and Mastersingers in a bold program of late-Romantic masterworks. Brahms’s Schicksalslied, or Song of Destiny, is a powerful reflection on the human condition. Mahler’s monumental Fifth Symphony includes the famous Adagietto movement – the composer’s heartfelt wedding gift to his beloved bride, Alma.

¡Viva Maestra!
City: San Antonio

Dates: Friday & Saturday, Oct. 24-25
Hours: 8 p.m.
Location: Majestic Theatre
   One of today’s most exciting young conductors, Alondra de la Parra, takes the San Antonio Symphony podium in a program of Latin American and Russian works. The hypnotic rhythms of Arturo Márquez’s Danzón No. 2 capture the flavors of Mexican folk dances. Osvaldo Golijov’s atmospheric Three Songs for Soprano and Orchestra is deeply influenced by his Argentinean and Jewish heritage. Tchaikovsky’s triumphant Fifth Symphony ends the program.
