   Performing: Melissa Greener
Since introducing her to you two years ago, Melissa has been busy: Winner of three songwriting/performance competitions by World Café Live, Eddie’s Attic, and Lizard Lounge; Finalist in USA Songwriting Competition; Selected as Endorsing Artist for Greenfield Guitars; New CD produced by the legendary John Jennings (Mary C. Carpenter, Gorka, Ian, Curtis, Ellis Paul…); Joined Catie Curtis’ tour as guitarist/vocalist. Pretty good for someone “new” to the modern folk music world. Her songs rock with intelligent lyrics and atmospheric melody as she continues a meteoric rise in our collective appreciation.
   Performing: Ellis
With music that is described as “joyful, unpretentious modern folk with a slight hint of country”, Ellis continues to build attention at venues and festivals throughout the country with heart-felt songs that reflect her sincere graciousness, vibrant nature, and contagious sense of humor. A native of Texas, Ellis moved to Minneapolis at the age of 16, where she quickly build a local following that soon blossomed into a nationwide presence, with extensive touring and five albums released in the last eight years. You’ll quickly be drawn in by her warmth and real-life journeys as reflected in her songs.

Magnetic Fields
City: Dallas
Dates: Monday, Oct. 13
Location: The Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm Street
Tickets: $25 to $30
The Magnetic Fields are the music of songwriter-producer-instrumentalist Stephin Merritt, who lives and records in New York City. Adept at computer music programming and production, Merritt records his own albums and plays almost everything on them with help from cellist Sam Davol, banjo player/second guitarist John Woo, and percussionist/pianist Claudia Gonson.
Merritt's first two CDs, "The Wayward Bus" and "Distant Plastic Trees", came out in 1991 and 1992 with singer Susan Anway, formerly of the early 1980s Boston punk band "V." The album included the early-1990s college radio single,"100,000 Fireflies," which first appeared as a single on Harriet Records.
When Susan Anway decided to relocate to Arizona, Stephin Merritt took up the vocal duties and remains the singer of The Magnetic Fields. In the early 1990s the band released several vinyl seven-inch singles, including "Long Vermont Roads" (Harriet Recs) and "The House Of Tomorrow-EP" (Merge), which is now available on CD.
The Magnetic Fields have released six full-length CDs between 1993-1999, all on Merge Records. "The Charm of the Highway Strip" (1994) is an electro-country meditation on life on the open road. "Holiday" (1994) has a more euro-pop sound, with songs about escape and nightlife. "Get Lost" (1995) has a mixture of styles and moods, including the intimate cabaret sound of "With Whom to Dance?"
In 1999, the Magnetic Fields released their three-disc set, "69 Love Songs." The album has sold 130,000 copies worldwide, and has brought Merritt's music to the mainstream eye. In addition to Merritt's singing, "69 Love Songs" also features vocals by pianist Claudia Gonson, as well as three additional singers, LD Beghtol, Dudley Klute, and Shirley Simms. The album also included instrumental contributions of Future Bible Hero Chris Ewen, and novelist Daniel Handler on accordion.
In 2002, The Magnetic Fields signed a worldwide record deal with Nonesuch (Warner Brothers). Their first album for the label, "i," was released in May, 2004.

C3 presents Ray LaMontagne
City: Dallas
Dates: Friday, Oct. 24
Location: The Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm Street
Tickets: $27.50 to $33.
Lauded singer/songwriter, Ray LaMontagne is set to release his much-anticipated third album, Gossip In The Grain, on October 14th on RCA Records. Recorded with returning producer, Ethan Johns in Box, England, and touching upon a range of styles and musical settings- spanning pastoral folk, railroad blues, front porch country, and plangent balladry - Gossip In The Grain proves to be his most creative and emotionally expansive collection to date.
Whereas LaMontagne's two previous albums, 'Trouble' and 'Till The Sun Turns Black', were largely solo affairs, with Johns serving as multi-tasking instrumentalist, Gossip In The Grain sees him joined by members of his touring band, bassist Jennifer Condos and guitarist Eric Heywood (with Johns largely handling drum duties). Along with his band members, LaMontagne is also joined on two tracks - "A Falling Through" and "I Still Care For You" - by singer/songwriter Leona Naess.
As LaMontagne explains "It was time to open up a little bit more, not be quite so reserved in my choice of songs that I wanted to record." Recently called by Vanity Fair "a fresh reminder that the genuine artist is not yet an extinct species," Gossip In The Grain reconfirms Ray LaMontagne as an artist and a craftsman without limits, a songwriter who is able to work his melodic gifts and distinctive lyricism through any of the myriad musical traditions that catches his fancy.
The Box Office at The Majestic is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. There is a $2 convenience charge per ticket. The Box Office also opens 90 minutes before each show.

Outback Concerts presents Sinbad
City: Dallas
Dates: Saturday, Oct. 25
Location: The Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm Street
Tickets: $38.50
His journey of becoming one of the best black comedians began in 1983, when Sinbad embarked on his "Poverty Tour," going from city to city on the Greyhound, from comedy club to comedy club, working for meals, changing out of hotel restrooms. "I prayed, Please Lord, this is hard work. So if I'm not funny let me know right away."
The break was Star Search in the mid-eighties. Sinbad was never a winner, but good enough to get on the show seven times and become a finalist. That led to a TV movie and a role as Redd Foxx's son on The New Redd Foxx Show ("If you don't do this right," Redd told Sinbad, "we'll get a white boy to play the part."). The next break came from Bill Cosby. Cosby became a fan. He cast Sinbad in A Different World which, along with Sinbad's stint as host of It's Showtime at the Apollo (a show which features black comedians), allowed him to eventually do the 1991 Share the Dream Tour of historically black colleges - a tour backed by Coca-Cola, United Airlines, and BET (Black Entertainment Television). That year, Sinbad's first one-hour HBO comedy special, Brain Damaged, became the second highest "Comedy Hour" ever.
Sinbad never tells jokes - "I don't know any," he admits - but rather stalks the stage, telling real-life stories. He doesn't deliver payoff lines; he slam-dunks them. His comedy is large, physical, impetuous. Psychologically, he jams us, poking holes in our lifestyles. His stories mirror our foibles. Sinbad is the explosive energy of the neighborhood, his phrasing is manic, musical and right on time. He doesn't write his material; he relives it as he remembers it. Sinbad never curses - "I want people to bring the whole family to my show."
In April of 1993, Sinbad gave us a blast into the past with his one-hour HBO Special, Afros & Bellbottoms, which aired live from the Paramount Theatre in New York. His style - absolutely improvised, uncompromisingly spontaneous - is a litany of lines about the seventies, a self-styled monologue on dashikis and afros, bell-bottoms and platform shoes, a parody of America past and present. Afros & Bellbottoms is currently available for home video rentals.

Tickets: $37.50-$87.50
The Great Russian Nutcracker will be performed by the Moscow Ballet and will feature spectacular sets and beautifully costumed Russian dancers.
Choreographer Emelianov has been praised by critics for its unique setting of Act II in the "Land of Peace and Harmony." To convey his message of peace, Emelianov incorporates an ethereal dove that escorts Masha and the Prince to a land where there is no war or suffering. New for 2008 is a whimsical, giant, six-handed grandfather clock, which signals the transition to the "Land of Peace and Harmony."
